Youth & Family Ministry nurtures and supports youth to believe and understand life in Jesus Christ – to be a person of faith. Y & F connects home life with church life where each one supports the other. It is a focused, intentional relationship based faith forming ministry.
Quoting from the book of “Frogs”:
Faith gives us our sense of hope and meaning for life; it is a way of seeing and interpreting and living in the world. It moves us, drive us, encourages us, comforts us, guides us, challenges us and anchors us.
Holy Shepherd’s vision is to include,
embrace and support Youth & Family ministry in all that we “do”.
As part of Youth & Family Ministry the youth at HS are involved in many ways: Worshiping, Growing, Serving and Reaching Out.
Sr. High Youth Group
The Sr. High Youth Group generally meets for fellowship, discussions, service work, games, “field trips” and whatever else we can do as a “family” to be nourished in God’s love and grow in faith! The “event” is planned by the youth and supported by a variety of leaders. Every summer the youth either serve on a mission trip or attend a Church Nationwide Gathering – whether it be in town or in another country we respond to the needs of others as the feet, hands, ears & heart of God.
Other faith building ministries that the youth participate in:
- Rocky Mountain Synod Youth Gathering
- Summer Mission Trips
- Walk-A-thon for Second Wind and other charities.
- Making blankets and serving dinner for Family Promise
- Preparing Care Packages for Post-high school young adults
Jr. High/Middle School Youth Group
The Jr. High/ Middle School group is involved in many diverse activities to help nurture and grow deeper in faith. They meet on Wednesday nights (Sept. – May) for confirmation classes. Confirmation ministry is a special opportunity Holy Shepherd has to touch the lives of youth in 7th, 8th and 9th grades and their households. We partner with 3 other area ELCA Lutheran congregations in this ministry. Together with Atonement, Centennial & Lutheran Church of the Master, we strive together to nurture and deepen faith in youth and their households.
Other “activities” are planned as needed:
- “Welcome” Lock-In
- Rocky Mountain Synod Youth Gathering
- Ice Skating
- ????
