Health Ministry

The mission of the Health Ministries Team is to “Reach Out, Serve and Support the Body, Mind and Spirit” of the Holy Shepherd Lutheran church community.

Barb Suder, Parish Nurse, retired from her position on August 31, 2018,. The Health Ministry team has decided to take a rest while the congregation moves through this transition time, and re-evaluate our mission as we look towards the future.


Upcoming Classes/Forums/Clinics

Senior Wellness Clinic

On behalf of the Parish Nurse and Health Ministry Team, the Visiting Nurse Association is providing a wellness clinic for the Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church community and all community members with access to registered nurses and health prevention services.

Services offered include:

  • $30 = Foot Care (Includes: nail clipping, circulation check, foot care education. Some Kaiser Ins. plans will pay for this)
  • $10 = Finger nail clipping
  • $3 = Blood pressure check  (free with nail trim)
  • $5 = Blood Sugar testing
  • $7 = B12 injection.

Financial assistance is available. Inquire when scheduling your appointment.

DATE: Every 4th Wednesday of the month
TIME: 9:00 – Noon
Location: Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church; Room: Library

To schedule an appointment call 303.698.6496. Appointments are every 30 minutes. You will have 1:1 time with an RN for 30 minutes. This is a great time to ask questions.

Volunteers are needed to make this clinic a success. If you are interested in a 3 hour/month commitment please contact Barb Suder, Parish Nurse at 303.233.2740. The Visiting Nurse Association will provide training.

Hunger Free Hotline

Purpose:  Hunger Free Hotline Helps Those in Need of Food Assistance

Hunger Free Colorado has created the Hunger Free Hotline, a toll-free number through which people can get information on food assistance in Colorado. The hotline functions as a fast-track through the complex system of federal nutrition and charitable food distribution programs. Callers can receive guidance in english or spanish and hotline operators, called Resource Navigators, are equipped to ask callers a few high-level screening questions so that the resources they recommend are tailored to each caller’s unique situation. Resource Navigators can help callers find the answers to questions such as:

  • Am I eligible for food stamps (SNAP) and how to do I apply?
  • How do I sign my kids up for free school lunch?
  • Is there a food pantry near me?

Food Bank: The King’s Cupboard

New food bank serves those in need!

The King’s Cupboard at 12344 W. Alameda Parkway distributes nonperishable food to families in need from 9 to 11 a.m. every second and fourth Saturdays of the month. This organization was started because of the growing need of assistance caused by the fall of the economy. The King’s Cupboard is affiliated with the Food Bank of the Rockies and receives donations from Faith Mountain Church and the local community. For more information, please call is (303) 980-1683.
