Karen Novess, Ministry Patner

Karen, who has been on the staff since August 2001, works closely with the pastors to provide direction and support for building the congregation as a community. Her responsibilities include supporting and nurturing the youth as they continue to grow in Christ, Wednesday Night Life mid-week Family evenings, Faith Formation (age 3 – 12th grade), and helping plan and create a variety of worship styles. She is also involved in developing and coordinating ways to support families as the primary faith educators for their children.

Karen received a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of Northern Colorado. Her many years of service throughout her life and volunteering in a variety of areas within the church have led her to the position of Ministry Partner. Karen is married to Dave and they are the parents of 2 daughters, Lauren (son-in-law, Jayson), Kristin (son-in-law, Daniel) and grand parents of Payton and Landon. She is excited to be a partner in ministry with the community of Holy Shepherd – “to walk with Christ on a pilgrimage toward God”.

Barb Suder, Parish Nurse

Barb Suder, a native of Denver, came to Holy Shepherd April 1, 2008 as Parish Nurse. She is responsible for promoting a holistic health care ministry to the Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church community. This includes educating and informing members of HSLC regarding health care issues in cooperation with HSLC Health Ministry Team. She is also responsible for providing leadership in identifying and assessing health education and counseling needs of the HSLC community. Additionally, Barb visits with HSLC members in their homes, while in the hospital, care centers etc. She works closely with the Pastors as well as Karen Novess, Ministry Associate. Barb finds Holy Shepherd a very warm & supportive environment in which to work.

Professionally, Barb has been a Registered Nurse for 28 years in the Denver area. She received her RN from Arapahoe Community College in 1986 and her Bachelors of Science from the University of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois in 1996.Her nursing has provided many different experiences for her over the years.

Barb is married to John. They have 3 sons and 7 grandchildren. They love to RV, snow ski, snowshoe and hike when they’re not working. She is happy being a part of Holy Shepherd and looks forward to growing in the community.
